Rapper and uber successful cannabis entrepreneur Berner is at it again, this time with the launch of an innovative new product line that combines mushrooms – medicinal but not psychedelic, terpenes, CBD, CBG, and CBN, for a non-psychoactive, uplifting experience. It is expected that an iteration containing THC will be launched across Cookies dispensaries later in 2021.
Dubbed Caps by Cookies, the line debuted with two iterations: Clarity, meant for daytime consumption, and Bed Head, intended for the nights. Products can be shipped to all U.S. states.
“Our products are not psychotropic or psychedelic… yet,” Berner said during an exclusive interview. “We’re going to ease into the market. Mushrooms are important to us because any kind of alternative medicine is important to us. That’s what we focus on. A THC version will follow; and eventually maybe one with psychedelic mushrooms.”
Caps by Cookies was co-developed by Cookies, Nammex, Tony Verzura of Blue River Terpenes and Extracts, and Jeff Chilton.
“I think the reason why this partnership makes so much sense is because Tony is focused on the science of things that help the body. And I’m kind of like the megaphone to the urban culture, to the black and brown communities,” the rapper added. “Bringing people together is a passion of mine.”
According to Verzura, “the mission was to create that next level type of product that was based around cannabis, but creating this synergistic effect between medicinal mushrooms, cannabinoids, and the terpenes themselves. Many people know terpenes as the flavor or smell of cannabis, but they are actually part of the effects behind what those cannabinoids actually deliver both in the mind and the body.”
Understanding The Caps
The 3 in 1 capsule combines cannabinoids, mushrooms and terpenes’ properties. Absorption takes about 30 minutes.
The daytime version, Clarity, is aimed at consumers looking for a boost in the morning or the afternoon without recurring to sugary energy drinks or similar, unhealthy products. Its formulation, the creators explained, helps with cognitive function while providing an uplifting feeling.
It contains two types of mushrooms, Lion’s Mane and Cordyceps, CBG, CBD, and an effects based terpene blend called Terpology “Energy” by Dr. Ethan Russo, which includes: α-Pinene, Limonene, β-Pinene, α-Phellandrene, Terpinolene, Nerolidol, Nerol. The Lion’s Mane helps with mental clarity and focus while also helping provide cerebral and nervous system support, the creators continued. Cordyceps supports energy and alertness.
The nighttime version, Bed Head, is focused on consumers looking for a product to help them sleep.
Made with Chaga, Maitake, Reishi, Shiitake, and Turkey Tail mushroom, plus CBD, CBN, and Dr. Ethan Russo’s “Calm” Terpene blend (Linalool, Limonene, a-Phellandrene, beta-Caryophyllene, Citronellol, Nerolidol, Naphthalene, Myrcene, Nerol, Citral, Valencene, Caryophyllene oxide), the product induces calm and helps with rest.
“I’ve been using these capsules for a little under a year. The daytime cap opens your mind for the focus. Your heart isn’t racing, not like you’re taking yerba mate or some coffee. It’s kind of a more mental clarity. But at the same time, my anxiety has been down from the CBG,” Berner shared.
“At nighttime, he takes the Bed Head caps. “The CBN, the CBD, the terpenes… everything mixed together helps us rest… I’ve just been so much more mellow, and I feel where we’re at in the world right now with the tension, with anxiety, it can change lives.
“Sleep is something I just don’t get. And melatonin is just a little too intense for me. And I’m not going to take some Nyquil or Xanax. This combination has been good for me, and I think it’s going to be great for the average man that works like we work,” he concluded.
While Caps by Cookies are available in their non-psychotropic version for the time being, THC and psilocybin iterations are in the works.
